Edward Eugene Pottmyer, 58, of Chantilly, was arrested on charges of forcible sodomy and intent to defile on June 5, Fairfax County police said.
The development in the cases is due to recovered forensic evidence from the scenes, which was submitted for analysis.
Due to the advancement in DNA testing, detectives submitted the DNA to Othram Inc., a Texas-based company who utilized Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® to develop a comprehensive profile that was then used for Forensic Genetic Genealogy research.
DNA analysis linked all three cases and potentially identified Pottmyer as a suspect.
